Adding the recommended time is a mandatory step in the question-creation process. For questions created by HackerRank, this time is determined by the problem setter and represents the expected duration candidates should spend solving the question. When creating a custom question, you will follow a similar process by specifying a recommended time, ensuring candidates have a clear understanding of how long they should spend on the task.
Adding Recommended Time to Questions
Prerequisites
- You can add recommended time to a question if you have created it or have the company admin access.
Steps
- Click on the Library tab on the home page, and then click on the Create Question button.
- In the Select Question Type dialog box, select the type of question you wish to create.
- On the question creation page look for the Question Details step, this step can vary from question type to question type.
- Under Question Details, scroll to the Question Properties section. Then, enter the total time needed to solve the question in the "Recommended time" box (in minutes)
- Once the recommended time is added, it appears in the library alongside the question name, tags, and other details.
- Library questions can be sorted according to the Recommended Time to solve them, from the least amount of time to solve to the highest.
- We recommend setting the total duration of a test based on the recommended time of all the questions included in that test.
Note: All questions in the HackerRank library include a recommended time, which can serve as a useful benchmark when setting the recommended time for your questions.
